On some 15ths the sun does not rise or set at all at this latitude, so the daylight column says so instead of giving a time.
Golden hour and sea temperature
Evening golden hour is our calculation for the 15th of each month of 2026: the time the sun takes to go from 6° above to 4° below the horizon (there is no official definition). A dash means the band has no evening start or end that day, for example when the sun never climbs 6° above the horizon or never sinks 4° below it. The sea figure is the 1991–2020 average sea surface temperature at the open-sea point nearest the weather station (NOAA OISST).
| Month | Evening golden hour (15th) | Sea surface |
|---|---|---|
| January | – | 5.3 °C |
| February | 2 h 15 min | 4.4 °C |
| March | 1 h 45 min | 4.2 °C |
| April | 1 h 55 min | 4.7 °C |
| May | – | 6.7 °C |
| June | – | 9.6 °C |
| July | – | 12.1 °C |
| August | 2 h 10 min | 12.9 °C |
| September | 1 h 44 min | 11.4 °C |
| October | 1 h 56 min | 9.9 °C |
| November | – | 8.1 °C |
| December | – | 6.6 °C |

The quietest and busiest months
In 2025, January was Norway's quietest month (4.9% of the year's tourist nights): at Bodø's station that month averages a high of 1.7 °C, a low of −2.8 °C and 104 mm of rain. July was the busiest (18.2%): average high 16.9 °C, average low 10.8 °C, 66 mm of rain. The visitor figures are for the whole country, and they do not show that the weather makes a month busier or quieter, so we do not say it does.
Similar weather, quieter: ideas for July
July was Norway's busiest month in 2025 (18.2% of its tourist nights). These places had an average high within 2 °C and rainy days within 3 of Bodø's in July, in a different country, and July took a smaller share of its 2025 tourist nights than July did of Norway's:
- Reykjavik, Iceland: average high 14.9 °C, 10.3 rainy days; July was 17.3% of Iceland's year.
- Cork, Ireland: average high 18.6 °C, 11.9 rainy days; July was 13.3% of Ireland's year.
Weather: 1991–2020 averages at each city's weather station (World Meteorological Organization normals in Europe, Japan Meteorological Agency in Japan); a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain. “Quieter” compares a month with the rest of that place's own year. Try another month or place. All quieter alternatives to Norway in July.
